But the fact of that matter is, as I have now proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, that I am very happy. So happy that if I wait for something else to post about, I just don't post. And anyway, I'm sure at this point no one reads this blog because I have all but disappeared... so here it is.
I am not happy I am infertile. I do not think that it has made me a better Mommy. But it has made me cherish every moment of my baby's life in a way I'm not sure I would have otherwise. And cherish it I am.
Boo and I are having an absolute blast. We play outside, we go to lunch, we have playdates with other kids, we go to swimming. It is fantastic. Everything I wanted it to be and more.
It is crazy how fast he grows and develops. In the last two months he has learned to:
say MaMa - which of course melted my heart, even though in the beginning he would only say it when he was upset.
eat all kinds of solid foods - he has eaten sweet potato's, green peas, carrots, squash, grean beans, tomato's, prunes, pears, mango's, applesauce, banana's, apricots, blueberries, honeydew melon, cereal, chicken, beef and pasta. On the weekend I let him suck the juice out of an orange slice while I held it. He loved it!
Say Dada and then Daddy - which made his Daddy so happy. Boo gets so excited when his Daddy comes home from work. He wiggles and squirms and screams until Rick picks him up. Rick has been gone for the last 4 days on a work trip and I can't wait until he gets home, partly to see Boo's reaction.
Say Hi and Yum (when I introduced him to tomato - his new favorite food)
Go under the water at swimming. He does this several times each time we are there and routinely goes down the slide and plops into the water before I "catch" him and bring him back up. He loves it.
Pull himself up on one of his toys all by himself.
Wave bye-bye and giggle his little head off because he thinks bye-bye is incredibly funny.
And get his first tooth, without me even noticing. A friend was declaring that her son would probably be 1 before he got a tooth because at 10 months he showed no signs of one whatsoever. I said, yeah Boo neither and then impulsively stuck my finger in his mouth only to get bitten. I have no idea when that tooth broke through the gum, but I know it couldn't have bothered him too much because he certainly had not been fussy.
He cracks me up almost every day. I love watching him, even when he is being stubborn. I love to see his independance develop, almost as much as I love cuddling him just after his bottle when he is tired but not yet quite ready to say good bye to the day.
This is the Baptism outfit I made him. We waited and had him baptized at home when all our family could celebrate it with us.
His first glimpse of the Christmas tree.
The second is while we were playing a rousing game of peek a boo. He loves to anticipate when I am going to pop back up again and is often craning his neck and shrieking waiting for me to reappear.
This one was taken while we were out to lunch to celebrate my birthday, just a couple of weeks ago. The sweetest birthday ever, even though I just turned 34.
In this picture Boo is "helping" me with the laundry. I love this picture because he looks very shy, which is just so not true and a completely different perpective for me.
Ahh.. my heart overflows just looking at these pictures and I have seen them a dozen times. Goodness but I love this kid.
Anyway, about my amazing trip.
We are going to India. And yes I know I have to be careful. I have researched and debated this ad nauseum. My brother is getting married in India in May and we have decided to go and to take Boo. It is not a decision I have made lightly and I have done and will do everything in my power to keep him safe. If you have advice about this, I would love to hear it. If you want to lecture me about taking him, please don't. I will probably delete it as I really don't have a good alternative other than not to attend my brother's wedding.
We are not going to fly directly to India, which would be approximately 20 hours of travel time, so I am currently researching where I want to spend almost a week on the way there and on the way back, any suggestions?

Ooh Krista - he is totally delectable - i love his face in the laundry basket one!
Re: going to India. I am currently google-searching travelling with a baby as we have been thinking about going to south east asia over the christmas holidays. There's a few things out there, I'll let you know if i find anything relevant. You will do fine - I read about one couple who actually got pregnant and gave birth while they were backpacking in the middle east. So it can be done.
And congrats to your brother. :)
He's adorable!
Have an amazing time in India!!! I think I'd take a baby just about anywhere - the only thing I would check is whether you have to buy bottled water (I'm sure your brother knows that). I think babies are much more versatile than most people think & it will probably be the experience of a lifetime for you.
Wow, I have a hard time contemplating a trip to Toronto. :) Good for you.
Anyway, I love reading your happy posts.
(you were probably in the html mode screen as opposed to the compose mode when you were typing. That's why you could only see code.)
Meg I would love to hear anything you find and how you plan on handling your trip.
Rachel, I plan on taking everything he will eat or drink with me. From what I have read, even the bottled water in India is not "clean" to our standards and can cause travellers diarreah.
Sky, thanks for the hint. I am going to check that out and see if I can fix those pictures. And I do so hope you come to Toronto. If you don't have already somewhere to stay we have two extra bedrooms and baby stuff. Please bring the little miss!
He is so unbelievably adorable! I love the Santa hat picture so much! I can't believe he's doing all that stuff already...wasn't he just born?!
As for the India trip, I don't see what the big fuss would be about taking him. What about stopping off in Hawaii? Not sure how equidistant that is but Hawaii...how could you go wrong?
Your son is just the cutest!!!! I love his Babtism outfit.
So glad you are enjoying your mommyhood, and it sounds like it has been very rewarding!
And no worries about the trip to India - you will all do fine and a great time!
I don't think going to India is a big deal at all. I would check with the foreign traveller's clinic at Tor. hospital I think? They might have good advice for you all on immunizations especially for the region you are going to. Like hep A/B would be good for him, or Menactra, or pneumovax instead of prevnar. Most of these are given to older kids in Canada, but he might need them younger, and then a booster later.
And it takes time for them to take hold and he shouldn't get them all at once cause it lessens the effectiveness. You too actually. Needles aren't fun, but in that part of the world they can really make your trip more relaxing.
And hey, great picture my dear. Your hair looks FAB.
What a lovely little boy he is! Didn't you do well...
I'm sure you'll have an amazing time in India. Don't ever drink the water, don't have ice in your drinks, don't eat salad etc. Stick to recently cooked food and bottled or purified water and you'll be fine, and I'm sure everyone will be delighted to meet him!
Depending on where in India you are going, you may need to look at some vaccinations for him. In particular, check out the malaria situation and probably invest in some long sleeved and long trousers with tight fitting ankles and wrists, but in lightweight fabrics to avoid him getting bitten.
I'm very jealous!
Have a fabulous trip to India! I think it's great that you're going and taking the baby.
He is adorable!
I say go somewhere you can shop!
Krista--he is beautiful...and don't feel bad about posting a happy post--it is your blog you can write whatever you want!! And we want to hear happy post!!
Oh India--I wished I had some suggestions. We might have to go to the Philippines for my brothers wedding too--I think if you are really careful everything will be fine. I agree with the bottled water-even for my family everytime we go to the Philippines we only drink bottled water and we are adults. Oh and same thing with ice cubes-I try to avoid those too!!
Krista, I'm so glad to read that motherhood is everything you dreamed and more. I love that! This is what you hope, planned and sacrificed for...never apologize or avoid posting because if it. It makes me happy to see you happy. :-)
Friends of mine go to India regularly to do missions work and bring their two children. They do see a travel doctor to make sure that if immunizations can be given (don't know if Boo weighs enough for those yet) they are and are kept up-to-date. They also bring all of their younger son's food with them and buy bottled water. Josh and Jen spend lots of time in the slums, which you won't be doing and they and their kids always come back fine. It's not that there aren't risks but they are manageable. If you want to talk to either of them about it, email me and I'll connect you with them. They are like India travel experts! (Plus, if you wind up running into trouble, they have contacts all over the country that can help you out.) casa.vacant@gmail dot com.

He is simply stunning! I love that big grin!
